About Stillness

Parental Involvement

We believe it is important for parents/carers to be involved in school life and successful schools have a strong parent/carer, school relationship. We therefore value parental involvement, either by coming into school and working with our children or by working alongside the Stillness Juniors PTA at various school events.

We are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated and committed parent volunteers currently helping in our school in a variety of roles.  These include:

Volunteer Readers: We also have a group of parents who come in to read with the children daily. The time reading volunteers spend with new readers provides encouragement while learning to read. Learning a new skill takes time and patience. Having support from someone else can help keep a child’s interest strong while learning to read.

School Librarians.  We have a number of parent volunteers who come in to work in our school library every day during lunch time.  Their presence in the library has made such a positive impact on the children; it gives them an opportunity to change their reading book or just spend some quiet time reading.

Class Reps.  One parent from each class will volunteer to become a Class Rep for the class.  Every half term Class Reps are invited to meet with the headteacher to discuss “whole school” issues that include things that could be better, what is working well and general discussion.  These meetings are always extremely positive and enable the school and parents to work together ensuring we continue to offer the very best for our children.

Jan’s Secret Garden:  We are extremely lucky to have a beautiful outside area for the children to enjoy.  The funds for this area were raised by the whole school community and is an invaluable outdoor area for the children to enjoy.  We are also lucky enough to have a group of parent volunteer gardeners who give up their time to ensure the garden flourishes over the coming months.

After School Clubs.  We currently have 7 after school clubs run by parents who offer the children a variety of activities which include Singing for Fun, Textile Club, Knitting Club, Netball Club, Craft Club, Yoga Club and the extremely popular Baking Club!

School Trips:  We are grateful for the number of parents who regularly volunteer to accompany class trips; it would difficult to organise visits outside school without parent volunteers.

Coffee Morning: There are parent/carer coffee mornings held throughout the year where curriculum content and other school related activities are discussed. Meetings with the headteacher to discuss more personal issues can be made via her PA, Kim Kennedy.

If parents/carers wish a paper copy of any information on the school’s website, please ask at the school office where it will be printed free of charge.
